Selection of learners for your training programmes is one of the key aspects to enable successful completion of the course and obtain good learner achievement or pass rates. You are provided with an excel spreadsheet (click the download button below) which is already pre-loaded with a few sample selection criteria. These are just samples and you will need to replace or add to them with your own selection criteria. The criteria you choose could be influenced by:
- The qualification or unit standard criteria such as highest grade required, prior knowledge or knowledge assumed to be in place and so on.
- Criteria related to the goals and objectives of the learning programme such as previous experience related to the course, volunteering history, ability to express clearly why they are wanting to complete the course and how it will assist them in their career and so on.
- If the course is funded by a particular funder (e.g. SETA discretionary grant or corporate CSI funds) the funder may have certain criteria that the learners must meet e.g. gender, disability, proven track records, experience within a particular sector and so on.
Once you have listed your selection criteria in the spreadsheet, you will then rate the applicants against each criteria on a scale of 1 - 3 for each criteria. Ensure that the autosum function is active for the total score line so that the total for each applicant is automatically calculated as you populate the individual criteria scores. The applicants with the highest scores are then your most desirable candidates to be selected.
